Common questions

My daily reminders aren't arriving

Start with Settings → Send a test notification. If nothing appears, notification permission is the cause:

If the test notification works but scheduled ones don't, see the next two answers.

My reminders arrive a few minutes late (Android)

This is expected. Goal Motivator uses Android's battery-friendly scheduling, which does not require the "alarms & reminders" special permission but lets the system shift delivery by a few minutes. On aggressive battery savers — Xiaomi, Samsung, Huawei, OnePlus — the drift can be larger.

If exact timing matters to you, exclude Goal Motivator from battery optimisation in your phone's Settings app, under Apps → Goal Motivator → Battery → Unrestricted.

While your phone is idle, Android throttles this kind of reminder to roughly one every nine minutes per app. Two reminders set closer together than that may not both land on time — spacing them ten minutes or more apart avoids it.

How many reminders can I set?

Up to six a day, at any times you choose. Add and remove them under Settings → Daily notifications. The next seven days are scheduled in advance with the real quote text baked in, so reminders keep working with your phone offline or in flight mode. The schedule tops itself up every time you open the app.

Why do I keep seeing the same quote across the app and a notification?

That's by design — the quote of the day is the same everywhere on a given day, so what a reminder shows matches what you see when you open the app. Swipe up on the Today deck for the rest of the day's quotes.

Will I see the same quotes over and over?

No. 410 quotes across 10 topics ship inside the app, and the order is shuffled once per full cycle then walked in order — so with every topic switched on you'll see all 410 before any one comes round again. Narrowing your topics in Settings makes the cycle shorter.

How do goals and streaks work?

Add a goal, attach a topic to it, and check in once a day. Your streak counts consecutive days with a check-in; the ring and the seven-day strip on each goal show where you stand. Only one check-in per day counts, so tapping twice won't inflate it.

A missed day ends that streak. There's no streak freeze yet — it's on the list.

Saving and removing quotes

Tap the heart on any card to save it. Saved quotes live under Saved. To remove one, swipe it left — an undo option appears straight away if you didn't mean it.

Changing how cards look

Ten gradient palettes are available under Settings. Turn on Shuffle card colours to give every quote its own palette, or leave it off to pin the one you like. App chrome follows a separate Light / Dark / System setting.

Sharing a quote

The share button renders the card as a high-resolution image and hands it to your phone's normal share sheet, so it works with any app you have installed. Choosing Save Image asks for permission to add to your photo library — that permission is only ever used to save the card you just made.

Does it work without internet? Do I need an account?

It works entirely offline, and there is no account, no sign-up and no login. Every quote is stored inside the app, and the app never makes a network request. See the privacy policy for the detail.

I think a quote is misattributed

Please tell us. Attributions use the popularly cited source, and a handful of widely circulated quotes are misattributed at the source — the Einstein and Churchill ones especially. Anything genuinely uncertain is credited to "Unknown" or as a proverb. Email the quote and, if you have one, a link to a reliable source, and we'll correct it.

How do I delete my data?

Settings → Reset everything clears your goals, streaks, saved quotes and preferences from the device. It can't be undone. Deleting the app removes everything too. Because nothing is ever sent off your device, there is no copy anywhere else to delete.
